Youth Services

If you are between the ages of 14 – 21, you may be eligible for services that will help you finish school, get your GED, or find a job.

The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 brings new emphasis and substantive reform to how youth are served within the workforce investment system.  It presents an opportunity to prepare our young people to successfully transition to the workforce and to continued education and training.

The Region III Workforce Investment Board’s (WIB) Youth Program is designed to improve education, training, and job opportunities for youth; redefine current youth program offerings; and build upon innovative methodologies and experiences.

The Region III WIB provides comprehensive programming for youth through contracted service providers and partnerships developed throughout the county.

  • The Workforce Investment Act requires that youth be provided 10 elements or components:

  • Tutoring

  • Alternative Secondary School Services

  • Summer Employment Opportunities Directly Linked to Academic and Occupation Learning

  • Paid and Unpaid Work Experience

  • Occupation Skill Training

  • Leadership Development Opportunities Including Community Service and Peer-Centered Activities During Non-School Hours

  • Support Services

  • Adult Mentoring

  • Follow-Up Services for at Least 12 Months after Completion of Participation

  • Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling including Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling and Referral

Training funds are available for those youth that are eligible.  To participate in the youth programs, you must first register at the local Workforce WV Career Center.
